This Privacy Policy governs the privacy policies and practices of our Website, located at HackSoc.com. Please read our Privacy Policy carefully as it will help you make informed decisions about sharing your personal information with us.

As a Visitor, you can browse our Website to find out more about our Website. You are not required to provide us with any personal information as a Visitor.

We collect your personal information when you sign up to our newsletter (“Subscriber”), when you express an interest in obtaining information about us or our community or contact us.

The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interaction with us and the Website, the choices you make and the products and features you use. The personal information we collect can include the following:

  • Name, email address. If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter.
  • Name, email address, subject of study, year of study, gender, the teams you want to join and your reason to join us when you are applying to volunteer or to join our committee (note: providing your gender and your subject of study is optional and is only collected for demographic purposes and does not influence our selection process).
  • Name, email address, hashed password, link to your CV when you use our CV bank.
  • Any information you provide when contacting us.

How and Why We Use Your Personal Information

We use the information we receive from you as follows:

  • To provide you news about our society
  • If you sign up to our newsletter, we may use your contact information to send you news about our society.
  • To select potential volunteers/candidates to join our committee
  • We use the personal data you provide when filling in the applications to volunteer/join our committee to select potential volunteers/candidates to join our committee (note: your gender and your subject of study does not influence our selection process).
  • To generate demographic statistics about our community
  • We use the gender and the subject of study you provide when filling in forms on the Website to perform analyses of the demographic composition of our community.
  • To send your CV to our sponsors
  • If your CV submission status on your CV bank profile is set to “published”, we will periodically send your name, email address and the link to your CV to some or all of our sponsors.
  • To provide you access to your CV bank profile
  • Your email address and your password are used to identify you and give you access to your CV bank profile. Your email address may also be used to reset the password of your CV bank profile.
  • To respond to your queries
  • We may use your personal information that you have provided when contacting us to respond to your queries.

Transfer Of Your Personal Information

Your information, including personal information, may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ than those from your jurisdiction.

If you sign up to our CV bank and set the status of your CV submission to “published” we may transfer your name, email address and a link to your CV to some or all of our sponsors. After this information is transferred the privacy policies of the sponsors apply to your personal information. We reserve the right to change the list of sponsors who receive the aforementioned information from the CV bank. The current list of sponsors that have access to the CV bank is as follows: Accenture, bet365, Goldman Sachs.

The demographic data we generate from your gender and your subject of study (excluding any personally identifiable information) may be transferred to any persons or companies chosen at our discretion.

We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and no transfer of your personal information will take place to an organization or a country unless there are adequate controls in place including the security of your data and other personal information.

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, your personal information may be transferred. We will provide notice and an option to remove your personal information from our servers before your personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy.
